Introducing the Yum Cha: A Community Celebration

Following the success of last year's Jui model, Selten and Watch Ho & Co. have reunited for a third-anniversary limited edition that pushes the boundaries of craft. The new Yum Cha draws inspiration from the communal experience of dim sum, specifically the bamboo steaming baskets that are a hallmark of Hong Kong teahouses.

Jacki Ho, founder of Watch Ho & Co., wanted to capture nostalgic memories of visiting these teahouses with his grandparents. The result is a dial that pays homage to those cherished moments, transformed into a wearable work of art.

Dial Craftsmanship: Engraving and Enamel

The dial's creation is a meticulous process. Selten's in-house engraver first carves 80 individual rectangles, each containing 40 parallel lines, totaling approximately 3,500 cuts per dial. Using tungsten tools and a bright-cut technique under a microscope, the engraver achieves mirror-polished lines that catch light beautifully.

Following the engraving, the dial receives a grand feu enamel treatment. This technique involves firing the enamel at high temperatures, resulting in a rich, slightly transparent brown hue. The transparency is intentional, allowing the engraved details to shine through while maintaining the depth and luster characteristic of enamel dials. After firing, the dial is hand-polished to perfection.

Case and Movement

The Yum Cha features a stainless steel case measuring 38mm in diameter with a thickness of 9.95mm and a lug-to-lug distance of 44.5mm. This sizing ensures a comfortable fit on most wrists, balancing classic proportions with modern wearability.

Unlike the Jui, which used an automatic movement, the Yum Cha is powered by a manually wound Sellita SW200 caliber. This movement offers a 65-hour power reserve, providing reliable performance with the charm of traditional hand-winding.

Pricing and Availability

The increased complexity of the dial and the manual movement contribute to a higher price point than the Jui. The Yum Cha is priced at ,950 and limited to 100 pieces. Given the popularity of the previous collaboration, interested buyers should act quickly to secure one.
