In 2026, Ming marks its ninth year in the watch industry, a milestone that underscores the brand’s evolution from a niche startup to a significant player among independent watchmakers. The 57.05 Comet, released to celebrate this anniversary, showcases Ming’s signature design language while introducing a novel approach to the classic worldtimer complication.

The Comet’s Inspiration: Aviation and Travel

The name “Comet” pays homage to the de Havilland Comet, the world’s first commercial jet airliner, symbolizing a romantic era of international travel. Ming’s team, spread across the globe, drew on this heritage to create a modern interpretation of the Louis Cottier worldtimer, a design that has influenced multi-time-zone watches for nearly a century.

Innovative Daylight Saving Time Solution

Traditional worldtimers often ignore daylight saving time, showing standard time across all zones. The 57.05 Comet addresses this with a two-part bezel system. Cities not affected by DST are fixed on the inner bezel, while DST-observing cities sit on an outer bezel that can rotate 15 degrees, shifting those cities forward one hour on the 24-hour scale. A spring-loaded mechanism locks the bezel in either standard or DST mode, with a small aperture between 8 and 9 o’clock indicating the status (silver for standard, red for DST).

Distinctive Design and Dial

The blue dial features multiple layers with overlapping raster structures, creating a dynamic pattern that shifts throughout the day. This “moving” dial effect, also seen in another Ming release this year, adds a playful, aesthetic touch. The case, measuring 40mm in diameter and 10.33mm thick, is crafted from stainless steel and uses nine components for the Art Deco-inspired lugs, allowing for meticulous finishing.

Movement and Pricing

Powering the 57.05 is the Sellita for Ming calibre 330.M2, a caller GMT movement adapted for worldtime use, with a 50-hour power reserve. The watch is a limited edition of 200 pieces, priced at CHF 6,950 on a leather strap or CHF 7,950 on a Polymesh bracelet. Orders open via Ming and its retail partners, with hands-on impressions expected at Geneva Watch Days.
