Casio GWB5600 Review: MIP Display Clarity vs. Strap Comfort

First Impressions of the Casio GWB5600

The Casio GWB5600 has been on my wrist for a few days now, and the first thing that strikes you is the MIP (Memory In Pixel) display. It's incredibly sharp and legible from any angle, making it a joy to read the time, date, and notifications. The plastic case keeps the watch remarkably light, which is a plus for all-day wear.

Display and Build Quality

The MIP screen is a significant upgrade over traditional LCDs, offering high contrast and excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. The plastic construction might feel less premium than metal, but it contributes to the watch's featherweight feel. The buttons are responsive, and the overall build quality is solid, as expected from Casio.

Strap Comfort and Design

However, the strap is where the GWB5600 falls short for me. The 5600 series straps are notoriously narrow, and the taper from the case to the buckle makes them look a bit odd on the wrist. More importantly, the strap is quite stiff out of the box, which affects comfort. Compared to my previous GD-110 series, which had a wider, more flexible strap that conformed beautifully to the wrist, the GWB5600 feels less accommodating. It's not a deal-breaker, but if you're used to the GD-110's comfort, you might notice the difference.

Buying Tips for the Casio GWB5600

If you're considering the GWB5600, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Display: The MIP screen is a standout feature—perfect for those who prioritize readability.
  • Weight: The plastic case makes it incredibly light, ideal for everyday wear.
  • Strap: Be prepared for a break-in period. The strap may soften over time, but initially, it's stiff and narrow.
  • Alternative: If strap comfort is your top priority, the GD-110 series might be a better fit.

Authenticity and Where to Buy

When purchasing a Casio GWB5600, always ensure you're buying from an authorized dealer to avoid counterfeits. Check for the model number and verify the watch's features, such as the MIP display and Bluetooth connectivity.
