Hanhart Shrinks Its Everyday All-Rounder

Last year, Hanhart unveiled the Preventor HD12 as a tough, versatile daily wearer, sitting alongside its pilot's watches and chronographs. Now, the German brand has teamed up with the British collector known as MAD to produce a more compact version: the Hanhart MAD Preventor HD12 36mm. This limited edition retains the core attributes of the original but wraps them in a smaller, more wrist-friendly package.

A Smaller Case with the Same Toughness

The new case measures 36mm in diameter, 10.5mm thick, and 43mm lug-to-lug. Despite the reduced size, Hanhart maintains its focus on durability. The watch uses HD12 steel, a proprietary alloy that offers significantly higher surface hardness than standard 316L steel, while still allowing for brushing and polishing. A transparent hard coating further boosts protection, achieving a surface hardness of up to 1,200 HV—compared to around 220 HV for conventional steel. The case features a smooth bezel, short lugs, a large screw-down crown, and a screwed caseback, with water resistance rated at 150 meters.

Dial and Legibility

The Black Forest green dial keeps things clean and functional, featuring the historical Hanhart logo, large luminous Arabic numerals, and the brand's signature cathedral hands. Both the hands and numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova C3 X2 GL, ensuring excellent readability in low light.

Movement and Performance

Powering the watch is the Sellita SW200-1, a no-date automatic movement based on the ETA 2824 architecture. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers approximately 38 hours of power reserve, and is regulated by Hanhart to within 0 to +8 seconds per day.

Straps, Bracelet, and Availability

The 36mm MAD Preventor HD12 comes on black or brown leather straps, or a hardened steel bracelet with quick-release spring bars and a tool-free fine adjustment clasp. The 20mm lug width is retained, allowing for easy strap changes. Production is limited to 200 pieces, priced at EUR 1,140 on a strap and EUR 1,340 on a bracelet (including taxes).
