The idea of a quartz movement, or an electric motor in a car, seemed to lack the soul and craftsmanship that I appreciate. So, when Porsche invited me to drive their new electric Cayenne Turbo and Macan GTS, I was intrigued but doubtful. Could these EVs, with their silent motors and batteries, possibly match the visceral experience of a combustion engine?

The Cayenne Turbo Electric: A Surprising Contender

The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric is a beast, boasting 857 PS (or 1,156 PS with Launch Control) and 1,500 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds, and its 800-volt architecture allows for rapid charging. But numbers aside, how does it drive?

Driving Impressions

I drove the Cayenne on the winding roads near Marseille, and I was shocked by its agility. Despite being a large SUV, it felt nimble and precise, with steering that was remarkably communicative. The air suspension soaked up bumps while keeping the body flat in corners. Even my co-pilot, a professional racing driver, was impressed, drifting the Cayenne around hairpins with ease. The Macan GTS: A More Practical Companion
