Fears, the British watchmaker known for its vintage-inspired designs, has taken a bold step by introducing its first-ever high complication: a perpetual calendar. This milestone arrives as the brand celebrates a decade since its revival in 2016. The new model, part of the flagship Brunswick line, showcases a refined case architecture with wide polished bevels, making it the thinnest Brunswick watch to date at just 9.4mm.

The Brunswick Legacy

Since its debut in 2017, the Brunswick collection has been a cornerstone of Fears' modern identity. It draws inspiration from the brand's heritage, featuring a cushion-shaped case, onion crown, and a signature sector dial. The typography and numerals are derived from archival pieces, giving the collection a distinct personality. It's fitting that this line serves as the foundation for Fears' first high complication in its 180-year history.

Compact Complexity: The 39mm Case

Despite housing a perpetual calendar with day, date, month, year, and leap year indications, the Brunswick QP remains compact at 39mm. The slim profile is achieved thanks to a Dubois Depraz perpetual calendar module mounted on a hand-finished Sellita SW300 base. This movement has been customized exclusively for Fears, earning the reference 55113.

The movement is a testament to traditional watchmaking, with frosted bridges and plates, hand-anglage on the bridge edges, and a dark rhodium finish. The automatic winding is handled by a custom solid 18-karat gold rotor featuring the Fears 'Bristol Flower' motif. The corrector pushers for setting the calendar are neatly integrated into the brushed case band, preserving the sleek silhouette.

First Moonphase and Elegant Details

Adding to the appeal, the Brunswick QP includes Fears' first moonphase indication at 6 o'clock. The moonphase disc is a clean black lacquer with two silver moons, hand-finished with a charbonage technique to mimic the lunar surface. The watch comes on a hand-stitched walnut brown ostrich strap with a Fears Blue Alcantara lining, complementing the silver mink dial and black gold coated hands and indices.

The presentation is equally thoughtful: a bespoke box in Fears Blue with a subtle Union Jack marquetry on the lid, and a SwissKubik watch winder in the same blue hue.

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is a non-limited edition, joining the permanent collection alongside the Fears Garrick in the new Eminence Collection.
