Alto's Second Release: The Art 02

Independent watchmaker Alto has unveiled its second model, the Art 02, at Geneva Watch Days. While it retains the distinctive design language of its predecessor, the Art 01, this new iteration has been significantly refined with a smaller case, an upgraded movement, and the addition of a matching titanium bracelet.

A More Wearable Design

The Art 02's case, crafted from grade 5 titanium, has been reduced in size to 42.3 x 36 mm, making it more compact and comfortable on the wrist. The geometric faceted design remains, but the overall feel is more streamlined. The dial, still microblasted brass with an anthracite finish, now features a wider flange with a contrasting minute track and a simplified Alto signature at 12 o'clock. The hands have been redesigned, skeletonized, and stripped of lume, while the signature anticlockwise central seconds hand continues to sweep smoothly.

Upgraded Movement: Cal. A02

Inside, the Art 02 houses the new Cal. A02, an automatic movement developed specifically for this model. While sharing the same architecture as the previous movement, the A02 introduces a free-sprung balance and a faster 5 Hz (36,000 vph) oscillation rate. The power reserve has been increased slightly to 50 hours. The movement is visible through a multi-faceted sapphire crystal case back, with a sandblasted titanium main plate and straight-grained brass bridges.

The New Titanium Bracelet

The Art 02 is fitted with Alto's first bracelet, also in grade 5 titanium. Its wide Y-shaped links are sharply faceted and satin-brushed, creating a play of light and shadow that complements the case design. The bracelet includes a double-folding clasp with 4 mm of micro-adjustment and a quick-release system for easy swapping with leather or rubber straps.

Pricing and Availability

Surprisingly, the Art 02 is priced at €13,100 (excluding taxes), which is just over half the price of the Art 01. This makes it a compelling value proposition, especially considering the new movement and bracelet. The watch is available directly from Alto, and it is not a limited edition.
