At Geneva Watch Days 2026, Gérald Genta expanded its Geneva collection with a striking new addition: the Geneva Minute Repeater Golden Obsidian. Following the Black Onyx model, this release combines the collection's signature 40mm yellow gold cushion-shaped case with a dial crafted from golden obsidian, a volcanic glass that forms when lava cools rapidly. The result is a dial with rich brown and gold tones, each piece displaying unique natural patterns, ensuring no two watches are identical.

Case and Design

The 3N yellow gold case measures 40mm in diameter and 9.6mm in thickness, featuring a cushion shape framed by polished, rounded ridges known as gadroons that continue around the sides. Brushed surfaces add definition to the curves, while the slim minute repeater slide follows the case outline seamlessly. A golden obsidian cabochon adorns the crown, echoing the design language of the Black Onyx predecessor.

Inside, the case is meticulously engineered to enhance acoustic performance. The walls taper to just 0.6mm at their thinnest, and circular drilling removes material from the bezel and caseback to allow sound to resonate more freely. The bezel and caseback screw directly together, reducing the number of screws while maintaining rigidity. The sapphire crystal is only 0.8mm thick, further aiding sound transmission. These details underscore the brand's commitment to horological acoustics.

Dial: Golden Obsidian

The dial is the centerpiece, made from golden obsidian with a dark base and golden-brown reflections that vary from piece to piece. Its fine, almost fibrous texture adds depth to the open dial area. Rounded yellow gold indices and polished gold hands echo the case color, with a double marker at 12 for easy reading. The white printed minute track features intriguing geometry: its inner edge is circular while the outer edge follows the cushion outline, creating varying spacing that adds visual interest.

Movement: GG-002 Calibre

Visible through the exhibition caseback, the manually wound GG-002 movement was developed in-house at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton by master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. It operates at 21,600 VPH and offers an 80-hour power reserve, comprising 316 components and 32 jewels. Each gong is individually cut and tuned by hand, with black-polished hammers striking to sound the time. The movement features Côtes de Genève, circular graining, and hand-bevelled edges. Polished gold regulating weights on the balance allow inertia adjustment, and an octagonal inertia wheel adds a signature Genta design element. A bar-click winding system provides a tactile experience when winding.
